What to see in Barcelona

Beaches and Coves


It is the third longest shoreline in Spain, with more than one kilometer long. The sand has a toasted tone and is full of palm trees, and the blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea are perfect for swimming. It is the main place for tourists and has showers, toilets and all the amenities you need.

Some of the typical dishes are, for example, Escudella I Carn D'olla, stew with vegetables, rice, noodles and potatoes, served as soup, cooked with white beans, which includes sausage (traditional Catalan sausage), pilots ( ground beef), bread, egg and spices, and rice casserole, like paella.

In its fish specialties we can cite the "zarzuela" (name given to the operetta in Spain) grouper, monkfish, prawns, shrimp, squid and mussels. There is a higher quality version of zarzuela which has prawns instead of lobster. Another typical recipe is suquet peix, spiced cod in a tin container. Among its most typical desserts, it´s included the famous Catalan cream, which is a kind of egg custard, the mel i mato, cottage cheese with honey, and musician dessert, made with pine nuts and raisins. Among the local wines, reds include Peralada, Alella, Tarragona and Priorat. Among whites, the Penedes. And of course, the famous sparkling or cavas from Penedes and Peralada.

By plane

Barcelona’s airport, El Prat de Llobregat, is located 12 km away from the city. From the airport you can catch a commuter train, which runs every 20 minutes. There are also buses leaving for the city center every 5 minutes. The night bus N17, which goes to the Plaza de Catalunya, runs every 20 minutes.

By bus

Coaches from other Spanish and European cities arrive daily at Barcelona’s major bus stations: the Barcelona North Station (Estació del Nord) and the Sants Station (Estació de Barcelona Sants). Both are well connected to the city center via the metro underground network.

By train

The Barcelona Sants Station is the main train station in the city. Although all trains stop at this station, rail service is also available to the stations of França, Plaça de Catalunya, Clot-Arago, Arc de Triomf, Espanya, and Passeig de Gracia. International trains with service to France, Italy, and Switzerland, national trains connecting Barcelona with many other cities in Spain, and the high-speed train to Madrid can all be easily accessed via these stations.

By boat

Many ferries and boats that operate on a daily basis connect Barcelona with the Balearic Islands and also some Italian coastal ports such as Rome and Genoa.

By car

You can reach Barcelona via the motorway AP-7, known in Europe as the E-15, which connects the entire east coast of Spain and stretches into France. If all you need is to move around the city centre, use the roads called rounds, or rondas in Spanish, such as the Ronda Litoral, the Ronda Dalt, or the Ronda Mig.
